About Me
I have been a gifted, national public speaker since the age of four addressing crowds from 10 to 10,000 in political, educational, social and religious venues. At six years old I recited Lincoln's Gettysburg address for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Detroit at Cobo Hall in 1963, just before he gave the initial presentation of his “I Have A Dream” speech. I attended Mercy College and Wayne State University studying Business Administration. My many gifts include cooking. (apple pie, banana pudding, pound cake, chicken soup, turkey salad) the list goes on, teaching and what I absolutely love, public speaking and writing.
Writing
I have been a columnist for two years for Detroit Legacy News and the Michigan Chronicle. But my writing extends into multiple areas. I have completed my first novel, entitled ‘I Had No Choice’ the truthful fiction story of my life. It talks about the suffering, humiliation and mistreatment at many areas of my life, but I also talk about surviving and eventually thriving. Men and women have gotten angry, with incidents in the book, openly wept over passages and congratulated me for writing the book. I had to open old wounds to tell my new story, but people across the country have been healed from me baring my soul.
The sequel to ‘I Had No Choice’ will be published in February, 2009 which will answer the last statement of the book. Yes, you have to read the book or listen to the CD to know what I am talking about!
Public Speaking
I adore public speaking. I have hosted cable television events for the City of Detroit in several areas. Celebrities and the non-famous continue to compliment me on my unique gift to instantly connect with an audience no matter the occasion or size of the crowd. I love people and reach everyone. I was invited to speak at a college for career day. There were six presenters, all more educated, some more experienced than I. I received three standing ovations and an invitation to come back and at time when I will be the only speaker. Several students followed me out.
“You put Les Brown to shame.” John Milton
“I thought I heard something when I heard Norman Vincent Peale. He was nothing, compared to you.” Tyler Mitchell
“May I call you?” Sandra Trent
“You really helped me. You gave me hope.” Kathleen Winegarden
Needless to say, the other presenters were not too happy with my presentation. I was not speaking to please them. I speak to help people. I have been deeply wounded, and I know how to help people get up, keep going and win. Even if they feel they have nothing left.
I speak in many venues, encouraging and motivating people to action through changing their minds, uplifting their thoughts, and following their hearts. I serve as mistress of ceremonies, panel discussion leader and main speaker. I have taught many secular and religious workshops. Some of them are, Christian Dating, The Power of Prayer, Education workshops, Overcoming Low Self-Esteem, Shattered Inside - Smiling Outside, Why Breaking the Rules is the Only Way, Don’t Do Anything, Until You Have Tried Everything, and much more.
Many asked me to pray with and for them. I asked God 10 years ago, what do you want me to do/ He answered, “I want you to make prayer tapes. When you were a baby, I was passing your Grandmother’s gift of prayer to you. When you pray, I will hear your prayers, I will answer your prayers, I will bless my people and I will bless you.” Since that time, thousands of prayer CD’s and oil packages have been sold at hospitals, nursing homes, shelters, conferences and the internet. The Medical Description of The Crucifixion
My unique non-denominational, presentation of the medical description of the Crucifixion complete with Journal of the American Medical Association articles, diagrams, and other items, holds audiences spellbound.
Bishop B.A. Hayes, said, “I have read, studied and pictured it, but tonight, Dorma took us to Calvary and I will never be the same.” It was taught at a church and they specifically requested extensive Bible verses be used.
Dr. Paul Morganroth, said, “Now I understand why this happened. Now I know why the death occurred that way. You did it without pushing religion down my throat. Thank you.” On this occasion, it was taught at a hospital, with only 1 or 2 Bible verses and they loved it!
The greatest lesson I have learned is: "Even though I was devastated by opening and closing six businesses because I made some wrong choices, I never gave up. God saw around the corner and I am blessed that I closed them."
Between all of this, I love to watch Steve Harvey, Bugs Bunny, Frasier, The Cosby Show and I Love Lucy. I have been through a lot, shed many tears, and walked the floor all night. Prayer, God’s Word, learning to be good to myself again and laughter have saved my life and I will never stop doing either one.
